What is this training course about?
If you want to know how to help a colleague or loved one recognise and overcome the disabling distress of common mental health conditions, Mental Health First Aid is for you. This course is beneficial for people who manage staff members and people working in government, social services and health-related fields. For managers, this course will help you recognise the signs of depression and anxiety in your staff so you can help them before their condition worsens.
This course is accredited by Mental Health First Aid Australia (MHFA) and delivered by First Aid Courses Tasmania’s professional and accredited course facilitators.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, up to 45% of Australians will experience the distress of a mental health disorder in their lifetime.

MHFA Course Duration
First Aid Courses Tasmania’s Mental Health First Aid course is delivered face-to-face. The 12-hour program is two days (six hours each day). You have the option of having these days be consecutive or spread out over two weeks. Times, dates, locations and availability may vary. See the MHFA Training Calendar HERE.

Course Content
12-hour Standard MHFA Course
First Aid Courses Tasmania’s evidence-based Mental Health First Aid course is delivered using Mental Health First Aid Australia’s training manual and action plan. The program will teach you how to recognise and respond to the signs of common mental health conditions. You’ll learn what you can do to provide first aid during a crisis and find out where to find and how to get professional help.
Are you interested in group training for your workplace?
This mental health training will raise awareness and teach staff how early intervention can be critical. It will help you safeguard your people and work environment by providing skills and knowledge to support those experiencing mental health distress. Many people delay seeking help for mental health problems. Still, suppose their colleagues have completed our Mental Health First Aid training. In that case, they’ll have the meaningful and potentially lifesaving support needed to find the treatment to overcome their condition.

Delivery and Assessment
- When you attend our Mental Health First Aid course, you’ll receive a copy of the current Mental Health First Aid Manual, which you can take away as a resource after completing your training.
- There is no online learning or assessment process for this course, but participants can opt for Mental Health First Aider Accreditation through Mental Health First Aid.
Course Prerequisites
No study prerequisites or physical requirements are needed to complete the Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) course.
Certificate Issued
When you complete Mental Health First Aid with First Aid Courses Tasmania, you’ll receive the following certificate on the day of course completion:
